Miroslav Klose GermanyGermany striker Miroslav Klose is confident he can become the highest-scoring player in World Cup history with a strong performance in Brazil.

The veteran forward has scored a total of 14 goals at the previous three World Cup finals and he is now just one goal shy of Ronaldo’s record of 15 strikes.

Klose needs to score two more goals if he is to become the highest-scoring player in the history of the competition and he is confident that can be done in spite of some injury problems.

“I assume I will be 100 per cent ready for the tournament,” Klose told reporters on Friday. “I feel good and I’m on the right path.

“The fitness coaches know me very well and they know exactly what I need, so everything is moving in the right direction.”

However, the player insists that he always puts his team ahead of personal glory.

“For me, the main thing is to be fit and the most important thing is the team. I am convinced that when the team plays well, then the striker will also get his chances. But anyone who knows me is aware that the goal record is a target of mine.”

With inexperienced Kevin Volland the only other striker in the squad, Miroslav Klose looks set to keep his place in the starting line-up.

Even if they have been placed in a fairly difficult group alongside Portugal, Ghana and USA, Germany are expected to go far in Brazil, so there may be value in backing Klose to be top tournament goalscorer at 51.00 (50/1).
