Manuel Neuer GermanyGermany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is still at least a couple of weeks away from returning to full fitness, according to general manager Oliver Bierhoff.

The Bayern Munich star picked up a shoulder injury in the DFB Pokal win over Borussia Dortmund on 17 May, but he was named in Joachim Low’s provisional World Cup squad.

And while Philipp Lahm and Bastain Schweinsteiger have resumed training, Neuer is unlikely to rejoin the group during a training camp in South Tyrol.

“We have to decide day by day how it is going on. I think it is positive that both (Lahm and Schweinsteiger) are back on the field and we are very confident,” Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff said.

“For Manuel it will certainly take a while until his shoulder is fine again and I don’t think that will be here in South Tyrol.

“Philipp and Bastian need to give us daily feedback after every training session how they feel and I think they will soon be back again in the squad session.”

Germany will not have an easy job at the start of the tournament finals, but die Mannschaft have been made 2.10 (11/10) favourites to defeat Portugal in their opening fixture.
