Arturo Vidal doubtful for Australia opener

Arturo VidalChile star Arturo Vidal could miss the opening game against Australia through a knee injury, the latest reports have suggested.

The Juventus star had a minor surgery on his knee on 7th May and he recovered in time to take part in La Roja’s final warm-up game against Northern Ireland last Thursday.

However, Vidal seems to have suffered a recurrence of his injury as he could not work together with the squad during Monday’s training session.

The star midfielder did not run at all during the first 15 minutes of the session and did not even kick the ball with his right foot.

This makes him a major doubt for Chile’s opening World Cup match against Australia, scheduled for Friday, 13th June.

Even if their star player fails to recover in time, La Roja will have to try and win their opening fixture and they are 1.46 (12/25) to succeed in their quest.

With games against Spain and Netherlands coming up, Jorge Sampaoli’s charges are aware the failure to defeat Australia would seriously damage their qualifying hopes.
