Germany vs AlgeriaThe narrow win over USA ensured Germany avoided Belgium in the Last 16 stage, meaning Die Mannschaft will fancy their chances of eliminating Algeria.

Meanwhile, Les Fennecs will see this match as a perfect opportunity to get revenge for the 1982 tournament when some foul play from Germany and Austria sent them back home.

Die Mannschaft have done well to establish themselves as one of world’s top sides over the last decade or so, but they have yet to win a major title in the 21st century.

In spite of some injuries to important players, Germany arrived in Brazil as one of the main candidates for the trophy and they have so far been playing to the potential.

The 4-0 triumph over Portugal hinted Joachim Low’s side were in excellent form, although they somewhat struggled to match explosive Ghana side in the second group game.

Nevertheless, the hard-fought triumph over USA eventually secured the first place in the group and set up a clash with Algeria in the knockout stages.

And with Germany unbeaten in last 14 fixtures, it is hardly surprising they have been made 1.33 (1/3) favourites to win in regular time.

After scoring the winner over USA to take his World Cup goal tally to nine in as many appearances, Thomas Muller is 2.00 (1/1) to net against Algeria as well.

With both Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira fit to play, Joachim Low could decide to use Philipp Lahm at left-back, especially with Benedikt Howedes largely struggling in the previous match.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Neuer – Boateng, Mertesacker, Hummels, Lahm – Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Kroos – Ozil, Muller, Gotze.

Having been denied a place in the knockout stages on their first ever World Cup appearance in 1982, Algeria have had another two unsuccessful attempts to progress from the group.

And despite being placed in a pretty evenly matched group at the 2014 tournament, not too many people believed Vahid Halilhodzic’s side will end the barren run.

Les Fennecs, nonetheless, produced three strong performances to pick up four points, which proved enough for the second qualifying berth.

And with the primary objective already achieved, Algeria players will be under no pressure when they face Germany, which is likely to result in another promising display.

Taking also into account Les Fennecs already scored six goals in Brazil, backing both teams to score at 2.00 (1/1) could prove the right thing to do.

Boss Vahid Halilhodzic should revert to a more defensive approach for the Germany clash, meaning that Saphir Taider could replace Abdelmoumene Djabou in the starting line-up.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): M’Bolhi – Mandi, Belkalem, Halliche, Mesbah – Taider, Medjani, Bentaleb – Feghouli, Slimani, Brahimi.
