Paris Saint Germain boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted that it could well be a doubt that Mauro Icardi is fit enough to lead the line for the French champions on Wednesday evening as they take on Real Madrid.
The Argentine striker, who joined on-loan from Inter Milan in the summer, has yet to make his full debut for the Parisiens having only made a substitute appearance in the 1-0 win over Strasbourg last time out.
Tuchel is doubtful that the forward will be able to spearhead PSG’s attack as they open their UEFA Champions League campaign against Los Blancos.
He said: “I don’t know exactly how fit he is. I don’t know how long he can play, maybe he should start or maybe Eric Choupo-Moting can start. Everybody knows we miss a few strikers but I trust the players I have for this game.”
As suggested by the German, the Ligue 1 giants already have a few problems in attacking areas heading into what could arguably be one of their toughest assignments this season. Edinson Cavani is major doubt for the game and joins French superstar Kylian Mbappe on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Neymar, who too made his first appearance of the season at the weekend, is also ineligible due to suspension.
Icardi meanwhile can be backed at odds of 5/1 with Betfred to score the opening goal of the game should he play.
