Manchester United caretaker-manager Michael Carrick has praised winger Jadon Sancho for his performance against Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

Sancho, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, has been struggling this season.

However, the England international winger turned on the style against Villarreal in Spain.

The 21-year-old winger scored in the 90th minute, as United won the Group F game 2-0.

United are now at the top of Group F with 10 points from five matches and have progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Carrick told United’s official website about Sancho: “I was so pleased for Jadon.

“I thought he worked his socks off tonight, I thought he gave everything tonight.

“At times, it wasn’t always with the ball and I know how much he enjoys the ball at his feet and trying to make things happen.

“He showed a different side tonight and, to get his goal at the end, pretty much capped it off perfectly for him and for us.”

United will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London.

The Red Devils can be backed at 16/1 on Betfair to win the Premier League game against Chelsea 2-1.
