Liverpool’s Joe Gomez to miss Champions League final

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss the Champions League final clash against Real Madrid, it has been confirmed.

The 20-year-old underwent an ankle surgery after suffering an injury in an England friendly back in March, and will now miss both the UCL final and the 2018 World Cup.

“Gutted to confirm that my season for both club and country is over having undergone successful ankle surgery,” Gomez said.

“Been a tough few weeks trying everything possible to be available on the pitch to help the team. I’m going to do all I can to get back and be in the best possible shape for pre-season. The focus now is to support the team in the two biggest games of the season”.

Joe Gomez made 23 Premier League appearances this season, starting 21 of those games, while also featuring in 6 Champions League matches.

The full-back was unfortunate to get injured in his third appearance for the England national team and will now miss two very important events.

After impressing to reach the Champions League final, Liverpool can be backed at 2.28 (23/18) to lift the coveted trophy in Kiev.
