Wolfsburg vs DortmundThe biggest surprise package of the current Champions League season were quite fortunate in the knockout stage draw, as they stand a decent chance of upsetting out-of-form Wolfsburg.

The Wolves haven’t been themselves of late, but if they fail to eliminate KAA Gent, they obviously don’t deserve to be playing at this level.

It is fair to say that nobody expected KAA Gent to secure a Europa League berth let alone qualify from Group H, but the Belgian side eventually proved everyone wrong.

The reality is they just took advantage of the bad moment the likes of Lyon and Valencia were in, but their achievement deserves praise nonetheless.

It remains to be seen how they will fare now that everybody takes them seriously, with the team not exactly in the desired form at the moment.

KAA Gent suffered 1-0 defeats to Club Brugge in Belgian Cup and Jupiler Pro League, although they did manage to return to winning ways by defeating Mouscron at the weekend.

There have been some good news for coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck as the likes of Moses Simon and Brecht Dejaegere have shaken off minor knocks.

Meanwhile, Hannes van der Bruggen is out through an adductor injury, whereas Peter Olaynika struggles with an ankle problem.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): Sels – Nielsen, Mitrovic, Asare – Foket, Kums, Renato Neto, Dejaegere – Matton, Milicevic – Delpoitre.

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Ivan Perisic have proved to be quite difficult to replace, as Wolfsburg now struggle to rediscover their last season’s form.

Injury to star striker Bas Dost created additional problems for Dieter Hecking and his men, but there is still plenty of time for the Volkswagen Arena outfit to save this season.

Things are not looking too good in the Bundesliga, where the Wolves sit five points adrift of Champions League positions, although at least they managed to end a seven-match winless run.

And even though the Champions League clash against KAA Gent comes just three days ahead of the clash with top 4 rivals Hertha, Wolfsburg have no choice but to give their best to win in Belgium.

The Wolves have been made 2.70 (17/10) favourites to emerge triumphant, and it is important to note they have defeated CSKA Moscow 2-0 in their previous CL fixture on the road.

The visitors have some important missings seeing that key defender Naldo is banned and Carlos Ascues and Bas Dost are out injured. Joshua Guilavogui faces a fitness test.

Probable starting lien-up (4-2-3-1): Casteels – Trasch, Knoche, Dante, Schafer – Arnold, Luiz Gustavo – Vieirinha, Draxler, Caligiuri – Kruse.
