Bayern Munich vs Barcelona preview

Bayern vs JuventusAlianz Arena will be home to clash of the titans as red-hot Bayern Munich and mighty Barcelona vie for one place in the Champions League final.

There are no doubts that Bayern are Europe’s form team, seeing as how they go into this high-profile encounter on the back of eight straight victories in all competitions.

The Bavarians were extremely motivated to do well this term after they had narrowly missed out on the Champions League trophy last season, and they have done even better than anyone expected.

With the Bundesliga title already won and just weak Stuttgart standing between them an the DFB Pokal trophy, Jupp Heynckes’ side are in an excellent position to win all three major titles this term.

They may not have such an easy job in the Champions League semi-finals against Barcelona, but there is a reason why Bayern are 2.30 (13/10) favourites at Ladbrokes to win the first leg.

With Mario Mandzukic missing out through suspension, Mario Gomez looks set to start up front, and having scored six goals in last three matches, the striker is 2.80 (9/5) at BetVictor to continue his amazing run.

Toni Kroos and Holger Badstuber remain sidelined, but Bastian Schweinsteiger returns having been rested for the Hannover clash.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Van Buyten, Dante, Alaba – Schweinsteiger, Martinez – Robben, Muller, Ribery – Gomez.

While Barcelona are just few points away from clinching the La Liga trophy, they have been far from impressive in other competitions this season.

The Catalans were eliminated by arch rivals Real Madrid from Copa del Rey, while their Champions League showings have left a lot to be desired.

They experienced all sorts of problems against both AC Milan and PSG, and were somewhat fortunate to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Having said that, the Catalans need to show a lot of improvement if they are to stop high-flying Bayern in their tracks, with away win paying 3.40 (12/5) at bet365.

Lionel Messi looks set to return to the starting line-up after missing the last few fixtures, and he is 2.15 (23/20) at BetVictor to score at Alianz Arena.

The visitors, however, face big problems at the back given that Carls Puyol and Javier Mascherano are injured and Adriano Correia is suspended.

Even if Eric Abidal is also an option, it appears that young Marc Bartra is going to start alongside Gerard Pique in the heart of defence.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Valdes – Alves, Pique, Bartra, Alba – Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta – Pedro, Messi, Sanchez.
