Bayern Munich vs Arsenal preview

Arsenal vs Bayern MunichBayern made a giant step towards the quarter-finals with the 3-1 win at the Emirates, and the Bavarians are too experienced not to take the return leg seriously as well.

Arsenal players are adamant this tie is not over yet, but the way the Gunners are playing at the moment, they should be happy if they manage to escape a heavy defeat at Alianz Arena.

The first match showed a huge difference in class between the two sides, which was hardly surprising given that Bayern are excelling this season and their opponents continue to struggle.

Despite enjoying a remarkable start to the season, the Bavarians are showing no signs of slowing down, having just increased their advantage at the top of Bundesliga to 20 points.

Bayern also eliminated arch rivals Borussia Dortmund from the DFB Pokal and are now searching for their 12th straight victory in all competitions.

The hosts may have some selection problems ahead of the Arsenal game, but they are, nonetheless, 1.40 (2/5) with Coral to win the return leg as well.

As things stand now, the Bavarians are one of the main candidates for the coveted title, and Paddy Power has them at 4.20 (16/5) to go all the way.

Franck Ribery misses out through injury, while both Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jerome Boateng are suspended.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Lahm, Van Buyten, Dante, Alaba – Martinez, Gustavo – Muller, Kroos, Robben – Mandzukic.

This season continues to go from bad to worse for Arsenal, and it is now perfectly clear this will be another trophy-less campaign.

The Gunners had a good chance to go all the way in the FA Cup, but they were beaten at home to Blackburn, just before being comfortably beaten by Bayern Munich.

Arsenal have since recorded a hard-fought victory over Aston Villa, but lost the North London derby to Tottenham, meaning they clearly go into this match low on confidence.

As much as the Gunners would like to think they stand a chance of overturning a two-goal deficit, the reality is that is mission impossible, as the odds of 26.00 (25/1) offered at Sportingbet on Arsenal to qualify would suggest.

The best Arsene Wenger’s side can do here is try and score at least one goal, and they are 1.73 (8/11) at Stan James to do so.

Jack Wilshire and Bacary Sagna are out injured and with Nacho Monreal cup-tied, Carl Jenkinson is likely to start despite not being fully fit.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Szczesny – Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen – Arteta, Diaby – Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski – Giroud.
