Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has reportedly travelled to Madrid for his Atletico Madrid medical.
The Uruguayan is undergoing all of his medical checks at the club ahead of signing a 12-month loan deal with the Spanish giants, according to radio station Onda Cero. There will not however be an option to purchase the midfielder following the conclusion of his temporary spell.
His switch to Madrid comes after falling down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium under current boss Mikel Arteta.
The Uruguayan was previously first choice in North London following his arrival from Serie A club Sampdoria. The now 24-year-old made 50 appearances in all competitions throughout 2018/19, scoring a memorable goal in a 4-2 win against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
However, he only made 23 starts in all competitions last term which included just two after the Premier League resumed after the coronavirus suspension.
Torreira will now hope he is able to revive his career under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano but will be set to wait for his debut.
The Rojiblancos play Villarreal at home on Saturday afternoon having sealed a win and a draw apiece in their opening two matches of the 2020/21 La Liga season. Atleti can be backed at a price of 8/15 with Betfair to win the match.
