Real Madrid have started initial discussions to sign Bayern Munich defender David Alaba on a free transfer, according to reports.

As per various sources including Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish giants are interested in moving for the Austrian utility man and have offered him a lucrative contract that is set to begin in the summer.

Alaba’s current contract with Bayern Munich is set to end in just six month’s time, with no sign of a renewal on the table at the Allianz Arena, with the Bavarians and the player currently failing to come to an agreement.

He is now able to discuss a pre-contract with any foreign clubs and it now appears that Real Madrid have won the race for his signature.

It is reported that the 28-year-old has agreed to a four-year contract with Los Blancos, but according to the player’s father, Alaba ‘has not yet signed’ with Real.

Should he end up departing Bavaria, it would bring to an end a hugely successful and trophy-laden period of his career having lifted won nine Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokals and two UEFA Champions Leagues.

Alaba will be hoping to end his Bayern career with yet more silverware, with Bayern sitting four points clear at the top of the league standings. He can be backed at odds of 25/1 with William Hill to score the opening goal of the game against Augsburg on Wednesday evening.
