James RodriguezReal Madrid are believed to be closing in on Monaco attacking midfielder James Rodriguez, Spanish daily Marca has suggested.

Los Blancos have been impressed with the player’s performances at the 2014 World Cup and they seem to have made him their number one transfer target.

Real Madrid chiefs met with his representatives some two weeks ago and they have been told it would take around €75 million to purchase the Colombia star.

Los Blancos have since met with Monaco chairman Dmitry Rybolovlev and while he initially requested €115 million, the Russian billionaire has since lowered the asking price to €85 million.

Real Madrid appear prepared to match the latest asking price as they are desperate to make James Rodriguez their first marquee signing of the summer and they are 2/1 to recruit him in the summer transfer window.

After helping Monaco to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 in his first season at Stade Louis II, the 23-year-old went on to score stunning 6 goals in 5 games for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup.
