Barcelona have reportedly been joined in the race for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.

The Spaniard’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium expires at the end of the 2020/21 season, with him able to negotiate a deal with a foreign club in January. According to Diario AS however, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are also interested in swooping for his signature.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have suffered extreme injury problems at centre-back this season, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez suffering from long-term problems, whilst Joel Matip has also had to endure his own injuries throughout the campaign.

Garcia, meanwhile, has long since been linked with a return to Barcelona come the end of his contract, with the report also indicating that he is extremely keen to sign for the Catalan giants.

In his time at Manchester City, the 19-year-old has made 30 appearances for the club. However, he has only made two starts in the league this season, one in the 5-2 defeat to Leicester, and the other in a 1-1 draw against West Ham United, with the likes of Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake and John Stones being preferred by Pep Guardiola.

Following their 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, Manchester City will be aiming to get back to winning ways against Southampton at the weekend. Pep Guardiola’s men can be backed at odds of 4/9 with Betfair to earn the three points.
