Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has blasted former teammate Eden Hazard’s work ethic but maintains that the Belgian is an incredible talent.

Mikel, 32, spent five years playing alongside Hazard at Stamford Bridge but was not impressed with his application in training despite managing to turn in glittering performances on a matchday.

Talking to BeinSports, he said: “The laziest player I have played alongside is Eden Hazard.

“Hazard has an incredible talent, maybe not as good as [Lionel] Messi, but he can do whatever he wants with the ball at his feet.

“He didn’t like to train hard. While we were working he was waiting for us to finish training just standing there. But on Sundays he was always man of the match, it was unbelievable.”

Hazard moved to Real Madrid in the summer in a big-money deal from Chelsea but has struggled to adapt to life in the Spanish capital. The 28-year-old has so far made 11 appearances in all competitions and only managed to score one goal in a 4-2 win over Granada.

He has also been criticised for his fitness levels whilst at the Bernanbeu but has managed to maintain his brilliant form for Belgium.

Hazard could be in action on Tuesday evening as the Red Devils take on Cyprus in their final UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier. He is available to be backed at 3/1 with Betfred to score the opening goal of the match.
