Ivan Rakitic has become one of the first to leave Barcelona this summer by rejoining former side Sevilla.

The Croatian midfielder returns to Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan after six years away with Barca, signing a four-year deal, with the Camp Nou outfit reportedly keen to balance the wage bill following their trophyless season in 2019/20 season.

According to a statement released by Barcelona, Sevilla are set to pay ‘1.5m euros plus 9m in variables’ for the midfielder.

Rakitic, capped 106 times by Croatia, originally represented Sevilla between 2011 and 2014, captaining the club as they won the UEFA Europa League crown just before his departure. He then went on to make 310 appearances for Barcelona, playing a key role as the club lifted the UEFA Champions League, four La Liga crowns and four Copas del Rey.

He now rejoins a club who are coming off the back of another major European success having beaten Italian giants Inter Milan in the UEFA Europa League final, their sixth title in the competition in all.

Following that success, Sevilla and of course Rakitic will be targeting more glory in the upcoming campaign under Julen Lopetegui. The Andalusians sit at a price of 33/1 with Betfair to win just their second ever Spanish league crown.
