Spanish giants Barcelona have sacked boss Ernesto Valverde and hired Quique Setien as his replacement at the Nou Camp.

The former departs the club after two and a half seasons in charge having taken over in July 2017.

The 55-year-old has overseen 145 matches at Barca, winning 97 of them. He has also lifted his fair share of silverware in his time with the club including two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and a Spanish Supercopa.

Despite Barcelona currently sitting top of La Liga, Valverde has taken plenty of criticism this season. The team have only won one out of their last five matches in all competitions, with the recent 3-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid the final straw for the hierarchy at the club.

With Valverde’s departure confirmed, Barcelona were swift in appointing his successor in the form of former Real Betis manager Quique Setien. The 61-year-old has signed a contract with the club until the summer of 2022, with his first match in charge coming against Granada on Sunday.

Setien has previously been in charge of Racing Santander, CD Lugo, Las Palmas and Betis, where his most recent role came to an end in June 2019.

One of his main assignments at the club this season will be to win La Liga and Barcelona can be backed at a price 8/13 with Betfair to do just that.
