Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa has been ruled out of Spain’s two upcoming matches, including their trip to face England on Saturday evening.

Luis Enrique’s men are set to travel to Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening to take on the World Cup semi-finalists in their first match of the UEFA Nations League before hosting beaten finalists Croatia on Tuesday. However, they will now be without Costa, who has been ruled out of the squad for ‘personal reasons’. Reports in the Spanish press suggest that his partner has gone into labour. The 29-year-old has been replaced in the squad by Celta Vigo forward, Iago Aspas.

Costa, who rejoined Atleti last season, enjoyed a quick start to his 2018/19 season having plundered two goals in Atletico’s 4-2 extra-time win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. Despite having played every minute of the league campaign so far, he is yet to get off the mark. Aspas meanwhile ironically hit his first goal of the season at the weekend against Diego Simeone’s team.

Chelsea man Alvaro Morata is the most likely to open the scoring for Spain against the Three Lions, according to the bookies. Odds of 5/1 are available with Paddy Power to name the striker first goalscorer. Elsewhere, Harry Kane can be backed at 3/1 to find the net first at Wembley.
