Sevilla confirm manager Eduardo Berizzo prostate cancer diagnosis

In a statement issued on the club’s official website, La Liga side Sevilla have today confirmed the news that head coach Eduardo Berizzo has been diagnosed with prostatic adenocarcinoma.

“Sevilla FC wants to show maximum support to its manager in these moments and wishes him a prompt recovery.”, the statement read.

The news first struck the media after it was revealed that Berizzo informed his players about his prostatic cancer at half-time in Tuesday’s Champions League game against Liverpool at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

These reports turned out to be not true as it appeared playing staff were told the news a few days ago.

Los Rojiblancos nevertheless staged an incredible show for their coach after coming back from 3-0 down to Liverpool to a remarkable 3-3 draw.

Sevilla players were seen rushing to Berizzo to show their support to their manager after Guido Pizarro scored an injury-time equalizer.

Roberto Firmino scored a brace for Liverpool and Sadio mane added a third goal in Liverpool’s utterly dominant 45 minutes of the match. The Reds looked set to secure qualification to the knockout stages of Europe’s elite club competition but went through a puzzling lack of form to allow Sevilla to get back up on their feet.

Wissam Ben Yedder scored a brace of his own in the second half before Pizarro concluded the match with a nail-biting finish.

Messages of support flew in for Eduardo Berizzo after Sevilla confirmed the news today with Olympique Marseille, La Liga and Valencia being among those who sent a speedy recovery messages to Sevilla boss.

Sevilla now turn attention to the next challenge as they prepare to face Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday.
