Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has praised the club’s fans for their contribution to the win against Chelsea at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League this week.
The Saints got the better of Chelsea 2-1 at home in the league on Tuesday evening.
Raheem Sterling put Thomas Tuchel’s side in the lead midway through the first half, but goals from Romeo Lavia and Adam Armstrong saw the home team launch a successful comeback.
Hasenhuttl told Southampton’s official website: “A first win against Chelsea since I’ve been here, the way we have won at home.
“Not only because of the win and because of the atmosphere at the end. It was intense!
“It was intense for the fans and intense for the staff to coach from the outside. We had to change the shape against every situation that was dangerous.
“In the end the team showed some fantastic resilience and deserved to get something today. You felt the energy and they carried you over the last minutes because we invested a lot.”
Southampton will face Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home at Molineux Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
