Alvaro Morata’s Real Madrid frustrations have come to an end.
The Spanish striker bid farewell to his teammates in Los Angeles as he prepares to start a new chapter in his career.
The 24-year-old has endured a difficult season back to his parent club after a Juventus spell and has also gone through a frustrating summer which saw him miss out on becoming a Manchester United player by an inch.
Morata was all set to become a Red Devil and even had his hair dyed red, but Manchester United’s U-turn left him heartbroken as he watched Romelu Lukaku join Jose Mourinho’s team instead.
A big breakthrough came on Wednesday night, however, when Premier League champions Chelsea confirmed on their website that an agreement with Real Madrid has been reached over a transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge.
The player is due to arrive in London on Thursday when he will discuss personal terms with the Blues and undergo his medical before linking up with his new teammates in Asia. Morata will rejoin former Juventus boss Antonio Conte who was the one to bring him to Italy back in 2014.
Alvaro Morata arrives as a direct replacement for Diego Costa, who has been told he does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans for next season.
Morata is expected to be an upgrade to his compatriot and the fans expect him to use his speed, strength and agility to add significant quality in front of goal. A technically gifted player, Alvaro Morata is considered a clinical finisher but his task of filling up Diego Costa’s shoes will not be an easy one.
The 24-year-old striker scored 15 goals in 14 La Liga appearances last season. He added 3 more in the Champions League and additional 2 in the Copa del Rey.
Chelsea are priced at 4.5 (7/2) betting odds to defend their Premier League crown in the 2017/2018 season.
