Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has suggested that winger Ousmane Dembele is a ‘much better player’ than former star forward Neymar.

The Brazilian was replaced at the Nou Camp by the former Borussia Dortmund man after he departed for Paris Saint Germain in a £200m deal back in 2017. He has been linked with a return to the Catalans giants in recent times but Bartomeu has insisted that they do not need Neymar back, instead insisting they have faith in Dembele.

Talking to RTVE, he said: “It’s not possible for the Brazilian [Neymar] to come because we have another sporting project with Dembele and (Philippe) Coutinho.

“We’re happy with what we’ve got. Dembele has a higher level than Neymar. And he’s a good professional.

“He’s young and he’s come to a big club. It’s not easy, but he’s already adapted. He’s a much better player than Neymar.”

Dembele came on as a late substitute in Barcelona’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the Camp Nou on Tuesday evening as they reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

Ernesto Valverde’s men are now one of the clear favourites to win the competition this season and can be backed at odds of 2/1 with William Hill.
