New Lyon signing Moussa Dembele says that he was ‘determined’ to join the club from Celtic during the transfer window.

The 22-year-old striker completed a £19.7m switch to the Groupama Stadium late on deadline day despite the Scottish champions fighting hard to hold onto their mercurial striker. However, Dembele admits that the lure of his new employers was too strong for him to turn down.

At his unveiling, he said: “I was determined to come to Lyon.

“Those in charge gave in. It was hard. I gave everything and in the end, it paid off.”

The former Paris Saint Germain trainee also told that he had heard positive things about his new club from a few current players, making his reasoning to join even more convincing.

He said: “It was a certainty that I wanted to come to OL. I have played with a lot of Lyonnais players. They all told me to come. I’m a scorer, it’s my first quality.”

Dembele enjoyed a profitable time with Celtic since joining from Fulham on a free transfer in 2016. In 94 appearances for the Hoops, he scored an outstanding 51 goals.

Despite the arrival of the striker, Lyon are still huge underdogs to win the UEFA Champions League. Odds of 100/1 are available with Paddy Power for the club to take the crown this season.
