Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that he was surprised at Chelsea’s decision to sack Thomas Tuchel as their manager.

Premier League club Chelsea parted company with Tuuchel as their manager on Wednesday.

The decision came in the wake of the Blues suffering a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb away from home in their opening UEFA Champions League game of the season.

Chelsea are not having the best of times in the Premier League either.

The London club are sixth in the league table at the moment with 10 points from six matches, three points behind fourth-placed Brighton and Hove Albion and five points behind leaders Arsenal.

Arteta told Arsenal’s official website when asked if he was surprised at Tuchel’s sacking: “I was – it was right before the training session when we got the news.

“It’s always sad for any colleague in this profession to get fired. Unfortunately, we know how this works. I wish him the best of luck. It’s not pleasant to hear that news.”

Chelsea will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in the London derby.

The Blues can be backed at 13/1 on Betfair to win the Premier League game against the Cottagers 3-0.
