Premier League outfit Manchester City have reportedly initiated negotiations with league runners-up Tottenham over a potential summer move for defender Kyle Walker.

England international has been pushed to the margins in the closing stages of the Premier League season.

Even though he was Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice for the good part of the campaign, it was Kevin Trippier who emerged as a first-choice right-back towards the back end of last season thanks to his emerging performances.

Kevin Trippier is said to have been promised regular minutes next season by Mauricio Pochettino and Kyle Walker is now looking for a swift solution to his status.

And with Trippier reportedly penning a new long-term deal with the Spurs this week, doors to Walker’s move to the Etihad have effectively been opened.

Walker would be guaranteed a starting place in Guardiola’s team given the fact Citizens let go both right-back choices Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna at the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola’s charges have been repeatedly linked with the 27-year-old defender in the past months and Tottenham Hotspur are now believed to be open to selling their £40 million valued asset.

The Citizens appear to be the only club to have met the Spurs’ asking price, but the BBC reports that the negotiations between the two clubs are at an early stage and that a transfer fee is yet to be determined.

The 2016/17 Premier League Team of the Year member has made 183 league appearances for Spurs since joining for Sheffield United back in 2009.

His boyhood club are thought to have inserted a sell-on clause in excess of 10% of any fee above the estimated £3 million Spurs paid for Walker eight years ago so the Championship side are in for a slight profit themselves.
