Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has said that he is pleased that the club signed Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer.

Wijnaldum has joined PSG this summer after leaving Premier League club Liverpool at the end of theist season.

The Netherlands international midfielder was expected to move to move to Barcelona.

Talks had been going on between the 30-year-old’s agents and Barcelona representatives.

However, PSG made a late move and convinced Wijnaldum to make the switch to Paris.

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino also played a key role in the transfer.

The Argentine wanted to sign the 30-year-old for his former club club Tottenham Hotspur when the midfielder was at Newcastle United.

Pochettino reportedly made personal phone calls to the 30-year-old to sell him the PSG project.

PSG and France international striker Mbappe, who is rated at 9/4 by Betfair to win the Ballon d’Or in 2021, is delighted to have Wijnaldum as his new teammate from next season.

Mbappe said about Wijnaldum, as quoted in Get French Football News: “He is really a very good player. I am very happy that he is coming. It was a nice opportunity that the club seized upon, they have worked very well.”
