Jamie Carragher has said that Manchester City attacking midfielder Raheem Sterling has been the best player for England at the Euro 2020 finals.
The former Liverpool defender made the comments following England’s win against Denmark in the semi-finals of the European Championship on Wednesday evening.
The Three Lions got the better of the Danes 2-1 after extra time to book their place against Italy in the final.
Sterling, who can also play as a winger, was involved in the first goal for England and also earned the penalty in extra time that led to the second and the winning goal.
Carragher believes that Sterling has been the best player for England at Euro 2020.
The Englishman told Sky Sports when asked who impressed him the most in the semi-finals: “Raheem Sterling. “I said this after the group games, I think Raheem Sterling has been England’s best player by a long way.
“There was a lot of talk going into the competition that his position in the team was up for grabs, which I couldn’t understand because he has been outstanding for [manager] Gareth Southgate since the World Cup, over a two or three-year period.”
Sterling has scored three goals and provided one assist for England at Euro 2020.
The City star is priced at 20/1 on Betfair to end as the top goalscorer at the European Championship.
