Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to be deprived of his return to Old Trafford due to injury, it has been revealed.
The Swede’s current employers AC Milan are set to travel to Manchester next week for the first-leg of the two club’s UEFA Europa League last-16 tie.
It would have been Ibrahimovic’s first return to the club since he departed for LA Galaxy in 2018 but he is now confirmed to be out injured. According to various reports, the 39-year-old has suffered a muscular issue.
The injury is a big blow for not only the forward but also AC Milan, with Ibrahimovic being their top scorer this season with 16 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions. He is now not only set to miss the trip to Old Trafford but key Serie A clashes against Udinese and Hellas Verona.
Ibrahimovic became a hugely popular figure in his time with the Red Devils. Arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain, he scored 29 goals and provided 10 assists in 53 appearances, lifting the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Europa League in the process.
AC Milan begin their run of games without the forward this Wednesday as they take on Udinese. Without him, Mario Mandzukic is currently the favourite to open the scoring and can be backed at a price of 5/1 with Betfair to do just that.
