Sampdoria vs FiorentinaDespite suffering the first defeat of the season in midweek, Sampdoria have reason for optimism ahead of the clash with Fiorentina having produced another very good performances.

Meanwhile, Viola closed the gap behind their top 3 rivals by hammering Udinese and now hope to record back to back league wins for the first time since April.

The mere fact Sampdoria were unbeaten in first eight Serie A games speaks volumes about the good work of new management and coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, but the team now need to try and get the most out of a unique situation.

The Bluecerchiati took great advantage of an easy fixture list to enjoy a brilliant start to the season, and they then proved their worth in games against AS Roma and Inter Milan despite picking up just one point from the two games.

After taking a deserved point from the home clash against the Giallorossi, Sampdoria impressed to outplay Inter at their Giuseppe Meazza, and were very unfortunate to concede from a last-gasp penalty.

But, having won four straight games before sharing spoils with Roma, the Bluecerchiati can be backed at 3.12 (36/17) to return to winning ways.

Sinisa Mihajlovic has some doubts over the fitness of defenders Daniele Gastaldello, Alessio Romagnoli and Matias Silvestre, but all three players could be in contention.

Roberto Soriano will be recalled after he was rested in midweek, while Nenad Krsticic, Emiliano Viviano and Alessandro De Vitis are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Romero – De Silvestri, Silvestre, Romagnoli, Regini – Obiang, Palombo, Soriano – Eder, Okaka, Gabbiadini.

Having achieved successive fourth-place finishes in Serie A, Fiorentina were hoping to mount a serious top 3 challenge this term, but the team in turn experienced all sorts of problems in the opening exchanges.

With key attackers Mario Gomez and Giuseppe Rossi again on the sidelines, Viola largely struggled up front, although youngster Khouma Babacar has proved he has a great future in the game by bagging four goals in eight league appearances.

After scoring a brace to help his side record a 3-0 triumph over Udinese, the Senegalese is available at 3.50 (5/2) to score against Sampdoria as well.

Inconsistency is proving to be a major issue for Viola, as they cannot seem to get several good results in a row, and no doubt they face a tough task at Marassi.

But, having won six of last nine away matches in all competitions, Fiorentina are 2.62 (13/8) to extend the good run against Sampdoria.

Nenad Tomovic and Gonzalo Rordriguez will be recalled, while Mario Gomez is back in contention but highly unlikely to start.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-2-1): Neto – Tomovic, Rodriguez, Savic, Alonso – Aquilani, Pizarro, Valero – Cuadrado, Ilicic – Babacar.
