Roma vs Palermo preview

Roma slipped to seventh following yet another disappointing defeat, so a morale-boosting victory over Palermo would be a good way to return to the right track.

The Rosanero are in the relegation zone at the moment, but the five-match unbeaten run can give them some confidence before the trip to Olimpico.

Having been tipped as one of the candidates for the title before the season started, Roma have proved to be a major disappointment, and nobody really knows why the Giallorossi are not playing to their potential.

Zdenek Zeman’s coaching ideas are usually not that quickly accepted by the players, but enough time has passed to rule out that as the main reason for under-par showings.

Despite possessing a high-quality squad on paper, the Giallorossi continue to struggle both home and away, and are eight points adrift of the third-placed Napoli following back to back defeats to Udinese and Parma.

Even if home win pays 1.57 (4/7) at Paddy Power, you can also back Roma to score at least two goals at odds of 1.36 (9/25) offered at Ladbrokes, after they scored at least two in the last four games.

First choice keeper Maarten Stekelenburg misses out with a muscle strain, while Daniele De Rossi, Pablo Osvaldo and Leandro Castan are all injury doubts.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Goicoechea – Piris, Marquinhos, Castan, Balzaretti – De Rossi, Tachtsidis, Florenzi – Lamela, Osvaldo, Totti.

Following the dismal start to the season, we can safely say that new boss Gian Piero Gasperini has done really well to stabilize the team over the last few weeks.

The most important thing is the Rosanero are now much more competitive, and it is only a matter of time before they will leave the relegation zone.

Impressive showing against Milan in midweek may not have proved to be enough for three points, but the hosts could have been happy with the fact it was the fifth straight league game in which Palermo picked up at least one point.

Given that the Rosanero would probably settle for one point from Olimpico, bear in mind Betfair pays 4.70 (37/10) if they record the fifth successive draw in Serie A.

Midfielder-turned-defender Massimo Donati misses out with a muscle strain, while Milan Milanovic and Abel Hernandez are long-term worries.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-3): Ujkani – Munoz, Von Bergen, Mantovani – Morganella, Rios, Barreto, Garcia – Ilicic, Miccoli, Brienza.
