AS Roma vs Napoli preview

Sitting in fifth place with one game in hand, AS Roma have the opportunity to effectively join the title chase by defeating Napoli, although that will be no easy task.

While the Giallorossi have won four games in a row, their next opponents boast a perfect record after seven Serie A rounds.

It was Luciano Spalletti who transformed this AS Roma side, seriously improving the results, but he was eventually allowed to leave and replaced with Eusebio Di Francesco.

Many believe this will prove to be a very good decision as the former Sassuolo boss is regarded one of Europe’s most talented coaches, and he has so far done pretty well in his new job.

Di Francesco did lose to his predecessor as AS Roma were beaten at home by Inter Milan, but his side won the remaining five fixtures, with the game against Sampdoria being postponed.

Having also taken four points from first two Champions League games, the Giallorossi have reason for optimism ahead of the high-profile clash with Napoli, where they are 3.20 (11/5) to claim maximum points.

The hosts do have some selection problems as Emerson and Grigoire Defrel are out injured, whereas Kevin Strootman, Stephan El Shaarawy and Patrik Schick are rated doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Alisson – Bruno Peres, Manolas, Fazio, Kolarov – Pellegrini, De Rossi, Nainggolan – Florenzi, Dzeko, Perotti.

Many believe that Napoli are Europe’s most exciting side under Maurizio Sarri and I definitely agree that the Azzurri are a joy to watch.

Rather than grinding out results, the Stadio San Paolo outfit usually record wins on the back of impressive attacking performances and I’m sure many neutral fans would love to see them lift the Serie A trophy.

That will be no easy task now that AS Roma, Lazio, AC Milan and Inter Milan all look pretty good, and champions Juventus obviously eager to defend the title.

But, seven games into the new campaign and Napoli are the only side with seven wins, and they are now 2.25 (5/4) to make it eight on the bounce.

Even more impressive is the fact that the Azzurri have scored three goals or more in each of those seven fixtures, so chances are there will be goals galore at Stadio Olimpico.

Allan and Jorginho look set to be preferred to Piotr Zielinski and Amadou Diawara, while Vlad Chiriches is rated doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Reina – Hysaj, Albiol, Koulibaly, Ghoulam – Allan, Jorginho, Hamsik – Callejon, Mertens, Insigne.
