AS Roma vs Lazio preview

The next edition of Derby della Capitale could be one of the most interesting yet due to the fact that both sides are enjoying very successful periods at the moment.

While AS Roma occupy fifth position after four straight wins, Lazio sit in fourth having won last six Serie A matches, and they have so far scored 10 goals more than their bitter rivals.

It was never going to be easy for Eusebio di Francesco to pick up where Luciano Spalletti left off, but the former Sassuolo boss quickly proved his worth at Stadio Olimpico.

Under his command, AS Roma all but secured progress from a difficult Champions League group with two games to go, while also impressing on domestic stage.

The Giallorossi did well to close the gap behind the leading pack and they are now just one point behind top 4 positions.

AS Roma have been quite impressive of late, defeating Torino, Crotone, Bologna and Fiorentina in their last four league fixtures, while also hammering Chelsea 3-0 in Europe.

As a result, they have been made 2.30 (13/10) favourites to win Derby della Capitale and thus leapfrog arch rivals Lazio in the standings.

Bruno Peres and Patrik Schick have recovered from injury, but Radja Nainggolan is doubtful with a muscle problem and Rick Karsdorp is out.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Alisson – Florenzi, Fazio, Manolas, Kolarov – Strootman, De Rossi, Pellegrini – Perotti, Dzeko, El Shaarawy.

Lazio are clearly enjoying one of the most successful seasons in recent years, and it’s a shame that the same is also true for Napoli, Inter Milan and AS Roma.

But, even with four top sides also in excellent form, the Biancocelesti sit mere four points behind leaders Napoli, and they have a game in hand.

Lazio will obviously need to continue the rich vein of form if they want to finally make it to the Champions League group stages, and local derby against AS Roma will be a good test of their top 4 ambitions.

The Biancocelesti are in excellent form having won last league matches and they are available at 3.00 (2/1) to make it seven on the bounce.

Thomas Strakosha and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are both expected to start despite not being in the best possible shape, while Dusan Basta has finally recovered from injury.

The likes of Marco Parolo and Ciro Immobile will have to put the disappointment of missing out on World Cup finals behind them and fully focus on the AS Roma game.

Probable starting line-up (3-4-2-1): Strakosha – Bastos, De Vrij, Radu – Marusic, Lucas, Parolo, Lulic – Luis Albero, Milinkovic-Savic – Immobile.
