Juventus ‘thinking about the holidays’ during Fiorentina defeat, says Andrea Pirlo

Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo criticised his Juventus side for already ‘thinking about the holidays’ in their 3-0 humbling at the hands of Fiorentina.

Heading into the match previously undefeated in the league, the Old Lady never really got going, with strikes from Dusan Vlahovic, Martin Caceres and an Alex Sandro own goal condemning them to defeat. The hosts were also not helped by Juan Cuadrado being sent off.

Despite that, Pirlo suggested that his team’s mentality more than anything let them down during the game.

He said: “It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. We hoped to end 2020 with a win, an important performance.

“But we approached the match badly, without the attitude of wanting to win at all costs. So, it’s difficult. The situation needs to turn you when you are 10 and it didn’t happen.

“Today, the attitude was wrong. We were thinking about the holidays already and it can’t happen. We had to close 2020 with a win and it didn’t happen.”

The defeat leaves Juventus sitting fourth in the table heading into Christmas, seven points behind current leaders AC Milan. Pirlo’s men now sit at a price of 4/1 with Betfair to lift the Serie A crown come the end of the campaign.
