Genoa vs Napoli preview

Genoa vs NapoliHaving slipped back to the danger zone following a narrow defeat to Udinese, Genoa need to try and get something from the match against star-studded Napoli side.

The Azzurri spoiled the impressive start to the season with an unexpected home draw with Sassuolo, and no doubts they will be looking to make amends at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Things haven’t started well for Genoa this season, and many started doubting the club’s decision to appoint inexperienced Fabio Liverani as the new boss.

Coppa Italia defeat to Spezia and league setbacks against Inter and Fiorentina created all sorts of problems for the Rossoblu, but they then produced a stunning performance to record a 3-0 victory over arch rivals Sampdoria.

However, just when they were expected to build on such a good result, Genoa could only muster a goalless draw with Livorno before losing to Udinese in midweek.

As a result, they clearly face an uphill task in home game against Napoli, as witnessed by odds of 5.00 (4/1) offered at Coral on home win.

Defenders Giovanni Marchese and Thomas Manfredini both miss out through suspension, while Luca Antonelli, Juraj Kucka and Stefano Sturaro are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-2): Perin – De Maio, Portanova, Gamberini – Vrsaljko, Cofie, Lodi, Bertolacci, Antonini – Konate, Gilardino.

Buoyed by the heavy summer recruitment, Napoli enjoyed a perfect start to the season, and immediately nominated themselves as serious title contenders.

While also defeating Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, the Azzurri beat Bologna, Chievo, Atalanta and Milan to climb to the top of Serie A standings.

With home game against Sassuolo next, Rafael Benitez did what every respected coach would do by resting some of his key men but still fielding a team strong enough to record another comfortable victory.

Not everything went as planned, since Sassuolo managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw, but there is still no cause for concern at Stadio San Paolo.

Given that Napoli now face out-of-sorts Genoa, there seems to be a good value in betting on away win, at odds of 1.80 (4/5) offered at BetVictor.

Rafael Benitez should recall a number of starters for the trip to Liguria, but Christian Maggio and Camilo Zuniga continue to miss out.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Reina – Mesto, Cannavaro, Britos, Armero – Behrami, Inler – Callejon, Hamsik, Insigne – Higuain.
