Genoa vs Milan preview

Genoa vs MilanThe first match of gameweek 28 in Italian Serie A will see struggling Genoa play host to third-placed Milan, a team that are in excellent form at the moment.

Genoa have spent much of the current league campaign in and around the relegation zone, but it appears the team are on the right track to finally escape the danger zone.

After both Luigi De Canio and Luigi Del Neri failed to get the maximum from their players, Davide Ballardini was also tipped to fail at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, but he instead helped Rossoblu significantly improve their survival chances.

Under the new boss, Genoa held Juventus, Parma and Palermo to draws on the road, while beating Lazio and Udinese at home, which saw them create a five-point advantage over the bottom three.

The weekend’s defeat to Roma did not prove costly as their relegation rivals picked up just one point between them, although they could now use at least one point from the match against Milan.

After beating two top table sides at home, the Rossoblu are 4.50 (7/2) with BetVictor to make it three on the bounce.

Davide Ballardini faces serious selection problems ahead of the clash with Milan, given that starting midfielders Matuzalem and Juraj Kucka miss out through injury and suspension respectively.

Antonio Floro Flores, Ruben Olivera and Thomas Manfredini are out injured, while Marco Rossi and Enis Nadarevic are injury doubts.

Probable starting line-up (3-5-1-1): Frey – Granqvist, Portanova, Moretti – Pisano, Rossi, Tozser, Vargas, Antonelli – Bertolacci – Borriello.

Milan may have experienced all kinds of problems in the first part of the season, but they are now on the road to turn the season into a huge success.

The Rossoneri are unbeaten in last nine fixtures in all competitions, and during that time they have defeated mighty Barcelona in the Champions League, while climbing to third place in Serie A.

Five wins and two draws in last seven league matches ensured Milan are now in the driving seat in the battle for the final Champions League berth.

However, with Lazio, Inter and Fiorentina breathing down their necks, the Rossoneri have got to try and continue the good run of results, so bear in mind Paddy Power has them at 1.95 (19/20) to win at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

As a result of their latest impressive run, Milan are 1.57 (4/7) favourites with bet365 to achieve a top 3 finish in Serie A.

Max Allegri was happy to see Bojan, Kevin Constant, Luca Antonini and Daniele Bonera resume full training, but now Mario Balotelli is doubtful through a shin injury.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Abbiati – Abate, Zaccardo, Mexes, De Sciglio – Flamini, Montolivo, Ambrosini – Boateng, Balotelli, El Shaarawy.
