Fiorentina vs AC Milan preview

Fiorentina vs MilanInjury-hit Fiorentina kept their top 3 hopes alive by defeating Napoli on the road and they hope to enjoy more success against out-of-sorts AC Milan.

The Rossoneri ended a four-match losing run as they shared spoils with Lazio, but they clearly face an uphill task at Artemio Franchi.

Just a couple of weeks ago it looked as though Fiorentina’s bid for Champions League qualification has come to an end as back to back defeats to Lazio and Juventus left them ten points behind third-placed Napoli.

However, Viola overcome serious selection problems to defeat their rivals on the road, closing the gap to seven points with nine games to go.

There are no doubts this will be a huge boost for the club at the time when they are out of Europe and missing quite a few first team regulars through injury.

And with their next opponents in all sorts of problems at the moment, Fiorentina look a good bet at 2.25 (5/4) offered at Paddy Power.

The 2-0 victory over Milan at San Siro in a reverse fixture back in November gives Vincenzo Montella’s charges an extra reason for optimism.

Viola were unfortunate to have Mario Gomez pick up a knee injury that will see him around a month of action, whilst David Pizarro continues to miss out with a back problem. Giuseppe Rossi, Anderson, Ante Rebic and Ahmed Hegazy complete the injury list.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Neto – Tomovic, Rodriguez, Savic, Vargas – Aquilani, Ambrosini, Valero – Cuadrado, Matri, Ilicic.

Despite a promising start to his coaching career, Clarence Seedorf has endured some tough times of late and he may not even get a chance to remain in the dugout beyond the current season.

It is now evident that Max Allegri hadn’t done all the bad after all, with the Rossoneri going through a very rough patch at the moment.

The 1-1 draw with Lazio at the weekend was certainly a step in the right direction following the run of four straight defeats, but Milan will need to win a game soon if they want to restore some of the lost confidence.

Having said that, this is not the right time to be facing in-form Fiorentina in spite of the fact the visitors will not be at full strength on Wednesday evening.

And with Clarence Seedorf still struggling to find the preferred starting XI, there is little value in odds of 3.70 (27/10) offered on away win.

Christian Abbiati returns from suspension, but now Andrea Poli is banned. Mario Balotelli should be recalled, but Riccardo Montolivo is doubtful and Ignazio Abate, Mattia De Sciglio, Andrea Petagna and Stephan El Shaarawy are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Abbiati – Bonera, Rami, Zapata, Emanuelson – De Jong, Essien – Honda, Muntari, Kaka – Balotelli.
