Empoli vs NapoliDespite slipping to 16th, Empoli are in no danger of getting relegated, but they will want to end a four-match winless run against Napoli.

Rafa Benitez’s charges did brilliantly to revive their Champions League hopes and they aim to put additional pressure on third-placed Roma by winning at Stadio Carlo Castellani.

Many believed Empoli would not be able to survive the drop given the lack of Serie A experience in the squad, but the Azzurri quickly proved the doubters wrong.

Led by talented coach Maurizio Sarri, the team never looked out of place in Italy’s elite division, causing plenty of problems even for the top 6 sides.

As a result, Empoli have all but secured Serie A survival with six games to go, although they will attempt to further improve their league position during the season finale.

The Azzurri did suffer a minor dip in form, suffering comfortable defeats to Juventus and Lazio before sharing spoils with Parma and Atalanta.

But, seeing as they can still play without any pressure, there may be value in backing Empoli not to lose at odds of 2.05 (21/20).

Important defender Lorenzo Tonelli is banned, while Tiberio Guarente is sidelined through a knee injury. Simone Verdi should be back in contention.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-1-2): Sepe – Hysaj, Barba, Rugani, Rui – Vecino, Valdifiori, Croce – Saponara – Pucciarelli, Maccarone.

A dismal run of results stretching from the beginning of March to the Coppa Italia defeat to Lazio appeared to have ruined Napoli’s season to the point of no repair.

But, chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis’ threats produced instant results as the Azzurri hammered red-hot Wolfsburg to reach Europa League semi-finals, while also showing incredible improvement in Serie.

Napoli recorded comfortable wins over Fiorentina, Cagliari and Sampdoria to get their campaign back on track and they are now back in contention for Champions League positions.

With top 3 rivals AS Roma largely struggling of late, the Azzurri are just two points behind the final CL berth ahead of the trip to Tuscany.

And with Napoli players in excellent spirits at the moment, it is hardly surprising Rafa Benitez’s men have been made 1.83 (5/6) favourites to claim maximum points.

Rafa Benitez welcomes back full-back Christian Maggio from suspension, but Michu, De Guzman and Zuniga are out injured.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Andujar – Maggio, Albiol, Koulibaly, Strinic – Lopez, Inler – Callejon, Hamsik, Mertens – Higuain.
