Coppa Italia final preview: Roma vs Lazio

By: Nemanja Lazarevic

Lazio vs RomaLocal rivals Roma and Lazio are vying for the Coppa Italia trophy and the final Europa League berth, with Stadio Olimpico hosting this high-profile encounter.

Roma go into the game on the back of a 2-1 home victory over Napoli, but they are not exactly high on confidence at the moment.

For the third season running the Giallorossi have missed out on a top 5 finish in Serie A, and once again they failed to live up to the expectations.

Things have improved a bit after Aurelio Andreazzoli took over from Zdenek Zeman and they did well to finish the league campaign above local rivals Lazio.

However, that is not going to be enough for the talented coach to keep his job, with Max Allegri and Walter Mazzarri being mentioned as possible replacements.

Meanwhile, the Giallorossi will attempt to turn this season into a success by winning the Coppa Italia trophy, and they are 1.67 (2/3) at Paddy Power to succeed in their quest.

Captain Francesco Totti returns to the side from suspension with the effervescent forward 2.88 (17/9) with Ladbrokes to score at anytime.

Boss Aurelio Andreazzoli faces an anxious wait over the fitness of Maarten Stekelenburg, Marquinhos, Daniele De Rossi and Federico Balzaretti.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-2-1): Lobont – Torosidis, Burdisso, Castan, Dodo – Bradley, De Rossi, Pjanic – Lamela, Totti – Osvaldo.

Lazio are in virtually the same situation as their local rivals, having utterly failed to achieve their pre-season objectives.

Despite going strong for quite a while, the Biancocelesti failed to reach the final stages of Europa League, while losing the race for a top 5 finish with Udinese.

All that’s left is to try and ensure European qualification through Coppa Italia, but that will be no easy task.

Lazio did have more difficult road to the final than Roma having eliminated mighty Juventus in the semis, but they are, nonetheless, as much as 2.10 (11/10) at Sportingbet to lift the trophy.

After scoring five goals against Bologna, star striker Miroslav Klose failed to register a goal in next three league fixtures, but he is 2.50 (3/2) at SkyBet to rediscover his scoring touch.

Boss Vladimir Petkovic should have key midfielder Hernanes back to the side, but Ogenyi Onazi, Michael Ciani, Stefan Radu and Bruno Pereirinha are all doubtful.

Probable starting line-up (4-1-4-1): Marchetti – Konko, Biava, Dias, Lulic – Ledesma – Candreva, Hernanes, Gonzalez, Mauri – Klose.
