Kai Havertz has been advised to remain with current employers Bayer Leverkusen by former midfielder Michael Ballack.

The young German international has developed a reputation as one of the most promising players in the Bundesliga in recent years, leading to links with the likes of Bayern Munich.

However, despite those links, former Leverkusen man Ballack has appealed for Havertz to remain exactly where he is for the sake of his development.

Talking to SportBild, the ex-Chelsea midfielder said: “Players with his quality are in demand everywhere but I think he is in good hands in Leverkusen. The conditions are perfect for top young players to further their development.”

Since breaking through at the BayArena during the 2016/17 season, Havertz has gone on to make 139 appearances for the club. In that time, he has scored 38 goals and provided 30 assists.

He has also accumulated seven caps for the senior German national side, scoring once.

He was also in the midst of another terrific season before the suspension of football due to coronavirus having netted ten goals and provided eight assists in all competitions.

Havertz’s side Bayer Leverkusen are finally back in action this weekend as they take on Werder Bremen away from home on Monday. Havertz is at 4/1 with William Hill to net the opening goal of the game.
