Arguably the two favourites of the competition are set to meet in the opening round of the Under-21 European Championship, so nobody would be surprised if the two teams meet again in the competition final.

Spain U21 side are looking to get revenge on England following the 2:0 defeat at the 2009 tournament finals in Sweden and the tournament favourites are 2.25 (5/4) with Stan James to win their opening game.

Coach Luis Milla has got a star-studded squad at his disposal despite the fact that Sergio Busquets has decided not to take part at this tournament.

The likes of De Gea, Azpilicueta, Javi Martinez, Juan Mata, Diego Capel, Thiago Alcantara, Bojan Krkic and Iker Munian should guarantee some very strong performances from La Furia Roja, but they will have to prove their potential on the pitch.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): De Gea – Azpilicueta, San Jose, Ruiz, Dominguez – Thiago, Herrera, Javi Martinez – Muniain, Bojan, Mata.

After losing to Germany in the 2009 Under-21 Euro final, England will be looking to build on that result and finally win the coveted trophy.

Stuart Pearce’s side haven’t really played to their potential in the build up to this tournament, having struggled in the qualifiers as well as in the play-offs, although friendly wins over Denmark and Norway were seen as a major boost of confidence.

Once again, the former Manchester City coach will not be able to count on all available players as Jack Wilshire, Kieran Gibbs, Andy Carroll and Micah Richards are out of the squad.

However, there will be no shortage of star names in England U21 squad, with Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jordan Henderson, Jack Rodwell and Daniel Welbeck in the side, although Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge is seen as the number one player on the sheet.

The promising forward has enjoyed a remarkable loan spell at Bolton, during which he scored 8 goals in 12 league games, so odds of 3.10 (21/10) offered by Paddy Power on Sturridge to score against Spain look too good to pass.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Fielding – Mancienne, Smalling, Jones, Bertrand – Cleverley, Muamba, Henderson, Albrighton – Welbeck, Sturridge.
