Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus has said that Jadon Sancho’s decision to remain with the club as great news for the players already at the Signal Iduna Park.

The England winger has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils still sitting at odds of 4/6 with Betfair to be his employers come the end of the summer transfer window.

However, with deadline day quickly approaching, a move back to Manchester for Sancho now looks extremely unlikely, with Reus thrilled to still have the 20-year-old as a teammate.

Talking to Sky in Germany, he said: “For us players that was great news.

“We all were happy that he will be with us for one more year because he delivers assists and goals, so we get points.”

Having put in consistently impressive performances in Germany since his move from Manchester City, Reus backed Sancho to improve his numbers even more, potentially challenging the best in the world.

He continued: “If he gets as big as (Lionel) Messi or Ronaldo, we will see. He needs time, experience and it will be important how he manages the times when things don’t go so well. But he has the confidence and the quality.”
