Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has challenged Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli to prove his undoubted potential at the European Championship finals.

The 21-year-old has had mixed success this season, with off the pitch problems once again preventing him from showing all he’s got.

Prandelli is, nevertheless, prepared to take the risk with Balotelli, but hopes the controversial forward can make a huge impact in Poland and Ukraine.

“In my opinion, he has to see it as an extraordinary occasion for him as it is for the national side,” Prandelli told FIFA’s official website.

“It is a time for him to be written about for what he does on the pitch and not what he has done off it.”

Mario Balotelli is 5.00 (4/1) with 888sport to be team’s top goalscorer, followed by Antonio Cassano, who is priced at 7.00 (6/1) with Sportingbet.

Italy boss doesn’t think the Azzurri are ready to fight for the Euro 2012 title, but believe they will be there or thereabouts.

“We are not built to win the European Championship, but I like to say that the Italians know how to surprise.”
