Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm fractured his ankle in training on Tuesday, the German club have communicated.
The former Germany international suffered a difficult injury in training and he is now set to undergo a surgery and is expected to miss next three months of action.
Bayern Munich revealed the bad news via club’s Twitter account, referring to the incident as a “big blow” for the captain.
“Big blow for Philipp Lahm: The captain has suffered a fractured ankle. He needs an operation and will be out for around three months!”
After hosting Hoffenheim in Bundesliga, Bayern travel to England to play Manchester City, with the Bavarians 2.20 (6/5) to win at Etihad.
Pep Guardiola already has a number of high-profile players either injured or struggling for fitness, although Bastian Schweinsteiger has resumed full training during the international break.
