Montenegro vs Czech Republic preview

Czech Republic are hot favourites to go through after winning the first leg 2:0, but Montenegro players are not yet ready to give up on the historic chance to make it to the final tournament.

Despite the fact that this was their only second qualifying campaign ever, Montenegro did really well throughout the Euro 2012 qualifiers, and they fully deserved to be in the play-offs.

After beating Bulgaria and sharing spoils with England on the travels, the Brave Falcons lost their next two away games, to Wales and Switzerland, hinting that they could have problems in the first leg against Czech Republic.

Even if they hadn’t played to their potential, Branko Brnovic’s side had a decent result going into the final stage of the game, but they conceded a cheap goal in injury time, meaning that they are two goals behind before the return leg in Podgorica.

Montenegro have been pretty convincing in front of their own fans of late, so odds of 2.62 (13/8) offered by William Hill on home win do look tempting.

Boss Brnovic faces a real defensive headache as Milan Jovanovic is suspended and Marko Basa is likely to miss out through injury.

That should see Stefan Savic return to the heart of defence and Vladimir Bozovic likely to start at left-back.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Bozovic – Pavicevic, Dzudovic, Savic, Bozovic – Vukcevic, Pekovic, Drincic – Jovetic, Vucinic, Damjanovic.

Following some pretty average showings in the Euro 2012 qualifiers, Czech Republic were not really seen as hot favourites in their play-off clash with Montenegro.

However, unlike their opponents who had a really bad day, Michal Bilek’s side produced one of their best performances in the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign to record an invaluable 2:0 victory.

The hosts did struggle to break Montenegro, but managed to take the lead just after the hour mark, before injury time goal from Tomas Sivok sent home fans into raptures and gave Czech Republic a big advantage before the return leg.

The Czechs are now just 1.10 (1/10) with Betfair to make the final tournament, but we obviously don’t see value in such pathetic odds.

Tomas Rosicky should be fit to play after shaking off a minor injury, while Milan Baros should start after recovering from a muscle problem. Midfielder Tomas Hubschman remains suspended.

Probable starting line-up (4-2-3-1): Cech – Selassie, Sivok, Kadlec, Pudil – Jiracek, Plasil – Rezek, Rosicky, Pilar – Baros.
