Tangiers in Morocco will be the setting for the Trophee des Champions clash between Ligue 1 champions Monaco and domestic Cup winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Many will be eager to see whether Leonardo Jardim’s new-look side will be able to match their more illustrious opponents, who are craving for revenge after the league campaign failure.

Monaco enjoyed a remarkable season last term, lifting the league trophy and reaching the last four in the Champions League, and they have already profited from the success.

Namely, the Principality Club earned close to €120 million from the sales of Bakayoko, Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Germain, Dirar and Diallo, and they could earn even more by the end of the transfer window.

However, in spite of heavy interest in Mbappe, Fabinho and Lemar among others, the club officials are adamant there will be no more sales.

Meanwhile, Diego Benaglio, Terrence Kongolo, Youri Tielemans, Jordi Mboula and Soualiho Meite all joined, while Rony Lopes and Alain Saint-Maximin could have important roles to play after returning from loan spells.

Despite failing to impress in pre-season, Monaco will be eager to prove their worth against PSG and they can be backed at 4.00 (3/1) to emerge victorious.

New recruits Youri Tielemans and Terrence Kongolo look set to start, but Diego Benaglio will probably have to settle for a place on the bench.

Probable starting line-up (4-4-2): Subasic – Sidibe, Glik, Jemerson, Kongolo – Rony Lopes, Tielemans, Fabinho, Lemar – Falcao, Mbappe.

Free-spending Paris Saint-Germain will need to work hard to reclaim the throne in France despite the fact that their main rivals Monaco have seen several star players leave this summer.

The Saints also missed another great opportunity for European success last season as even the 4-0 triumph against Barcelona didn’t prove enough to reach the final stages, so there are a lot of things they need to improve this term.

Even though their transfer exploits are always in the focus, there has been little to no activity at Parc des Princes so far, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Nevertheless, the Saints have been pretty disappointing in pre-season, losing their last two fixtures to Spurs (2-4) and Juventus (2-3), with the shaky back line the biggest concern at the moment.

With the league campaign starting next weekend, PSG will have to start showing some improvement and they will be hoping to produce a good performance in the French Super Cup match.

Boss Unai Emery doesn’t have too many selection problems at the moment, although playmaker Marco Verratti is lacking match fitness.

Probable starting line-up (4-3-3): Areola – Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Kurzawa – Pastore, Motta, Matuidi – Lucas, Cavani, Di Maria.
