Barcelona forward Lionel Messi was awarded FIFA Balon D’Or for the second year running, with his teammates Xavi and Iniesta coming second and third.

The Barca star says he was surprised by the award as he believed Argentina’s disappointing exit from 2010 World Cup would count against him.

“I’m happy, but I didn’t expect it because everyone had been talking so much about Xavi and Andres,” Messi said.

“They also deserved it for the wonderful year they had. They won the World Cup, which usually goes a long way to deciding who wins this award, and they both had big parts to play in that.”

Barcelona continue to dominate Spanish La Liga with their 5:0 victory over Real Madrid showing who’s the boss in Spain. Therefore, there is a good value in backing Barca to win La Liga at odds of 1.50 (1/2) offered by William Hill.
