Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup action from Anfield sees Premier League leaders Liverpool take on Chelsea.

The pair, who meet in the Premier League in Saturday’s late kick-off are two of the three sides yet to be beaten in all competitions this season, though something will have to give here with a place in the fourth round up for grabs.

No club has won this tournament more times than the hosts, who’s last victory came in 2012 when they beat Cardiff City on penalties.

Simon Mignolet is set to play for the first time since January with first choice goalkeeper Alisson to be rested having played every minute of the Reds’ campaign so far.

Virgil van Dijk faces a late fitness test ahead of kick-off while the game is likely to come to soon for fellow defender Dejan Lovren.

Mo Salah is favourite to open the scoring at 4.6 (18/5) with Unibet, with Daniel Sturridge a 5.6 (23/5) chance with the same firm.

The home win inside ninety minutes is priced at 1.92 (11/12) with Unibet, who have the draw at 56/19 (3.95) while the visitors are as highly priced as the 4.2 (16/5) on offer from a variety of bookmakers.

Only Liverpool have won this trophy more times than Chelsea, who like Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa have triumphed on five occasions.

The Blues could well rotate their line up with Gary Cahill in contention along with teenage duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu though Rueben Loftus-Cheek, Antonio Rudiger and Pedro are all doubts.

Eden Hazard is widely available at 8.0 (7/1) to get the first goal of the game ahead of 9.5 (17/2) chance Olivier Giroud.

Each of the last four meetings between the sides on Merseyside have finished 1-1, including their last clash in this competition – the first leg of the 2014/15 semi-finals.

You can back that scoreline this time around at 8.0 (7/1) with Bet Victor while several bookmakers offer a price of 1.62 (8/13) for both teams to score inside ninety minutes.

Alternatively, you may be tempted to back a goal in each half at 1.62 (8/13) with most firms.
