The latest Roma acquisition Erik Lamela says he cannot wait to take part in Derby della Capitale against Lazio.

Former River Plate playmaker Erik Lamela says he has been impressed with the reception of Roma fans.

“The passion of the Roma fans is so similar to that of River. Roma are a great club and I was given such a warm welcome,” Lamela told Sky Sport Italia.

The Argentine is delighted that he will have a chance to take part in the derby games against Lazio.

“This is a very strong side and a splendid city. I’m sure Roma-Lazio will be a dream to play in, just like River Plate-Boca Juniors. That’s also a classic derby that everyone wants to take part in.

“I don’t know if I’ll be in the starting 11 straight away, but we’ll see what decisions the coach makes.”

Roma have done pretty well in the summer transfer window, having also brought Bojan Krkic, Gabriel Heinze and Jose Angel, meaning they should be able to enter the title race next season.

However, with Milan, Inter and Juventus also looking strong at the moment, it is little wonder Roma are 13.00 (12/1) with Victor Chandler to win Serie A title next term.
