Cavani UruguayParis Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has moved to confirm that star striker Edinson Cavani suffered an injury in the 4-0 hammering of Rennes.

The 29-year-old continued his impressive start to the season by scoring his 11th goal of the campaign, but the feat came at a cost.

Cavani appeared to have pulled his muscle in the process of scoring against Rennes and was substituted by Jese Rodriguez at the end of the first period.

PSG coach Unai Emery is still unaware whether the injury is serious or not and he is awaiting an assessment from the club doctors.

“There is the possibility he has a muscle strain. I do not know if it’s serious or not. I await the analysis of the doctors and they’ll tell me. It is a great goal he scored,” Emery said at a post-match press conference.

This is definitely bad news for Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez as it was Cavani’s 7 goals that helped La Celeste climb to second in the standings of the World Cup qualifiers.

Uruguay play home to Ecuador before facing Chile on the road and they have an excellent opportunity to edge closer to securing their place at the 2018 World Cup finals.
