Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to be out for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

The French centre-back suffered a knee injury in training last week, forcing him to miss the recent 2-2 draw against FC Koln.

It has now been revealed by the German giants that Zagadou has had to undergo surgery due to the problem, with his rehabilitation set to rule him out for the final two months of the campaign.

An official club statement read: “Borussia Dortmund will be without central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou for the foreseeable future.

“Intensive examinations carried out on the defender following his injury in training revealed that he needed another operation on his knee.

“That unfortunately means that the 21-year-old, who has already gone under the knife, will not be available for the rest of the season.”

The injury is the latest in a long line of problems that the 21-year-old has suffered throughout the season. In what has been a hugely injury-hit campaign, he has missed a total of 24 matches in all competitions, making just four starts.

It also means that Zagadou is set to miss the U21 European Championships that are taking place in Hungary and Slovenia. France sit at odds of 19/20 with Betfair to win their opening match of the tournament against Denmark.
